Many skeptics will say that an outcome of a particular experiment was simply due to chance. This is of course a fair comment but it would be good to know exactly what odds we are talking about.
A simple experiment might be to shuffle a normal pack of playing cards and arrange them in a pile, face down. Then ask the person being tested to say what colour the top card is, red or black. Let them touch the back of the card if they wish and then hand it to you after their guess!
Simply make two piles, one for correct and one for incorrect guesses. Then count the correct cards and check the table below.
The probability of guessing correctly more than:
33 is 1 in 55
36 is 1 in 628
39 is 1 in 16,200
42 is 1 in 981,000
45 is 1 in 192,000,000
As you can see the odds increase dramatically. Many people will remain skeptical but at least you can state the improbability of a particular score.
